I can’t get any photos out today…

Morning Walk with Honey Girl.

image

Oh…I had a whole story about how unusual it is for these desert plants to be growing so close together….creoste bushes emit a poison through thier root systems(creosote is the lower light green bush) that pretty much prohibits other plants from growing in thier area.

Then I see my Honey Girl…she is checking to see what the heck did I find so interesting…I can read her mind…”is it a bunny rabbit?   Huh Ma…a bunny rabbit..?”

I love my Honey Girl!   :-))

image

                 Lobo,Texas

The wind is wild in Texas. It can reshape and guide the growth of just about any thing that lives out here!

                      Poor Bug

If you look closely…you ‘ll find the little bugger.

I call that a “Desert Bonsai”

TO HARD WORKING CATTLE GUARDS!

image

I know-I know…you are thinking …what the heck is that  ?
Well any rancher or farmer or people who live in rural parts of the country know this is a “cattle guard”.
What it does is stops the open range cattle or horses or other livestock from crossing over it and onto the highways or other roads.
Animals are unable to walk over these.

They are made of heavy tubular shaped steel pipe.

I heard a story about how our federal government was subsidising the payroll expenses to to States which have “cattle guards” on the Federal Highways! !!

I wonder……? ?

IT’S GREEN IN WINTER….?

image

This is an example of a good portion of land in W. Texas during most of the year. The surface of the dirt is dry, sandy and mostly baron.

image

A Yucca regrowth from the body of an old and hibernating plant.

image

Green,  healthy Yuccas growing where the ground water is closer to the surface.

image

A closer look at the green Yucca stems in the middle of winter.

image

Another hearty green survivor…The Ironwood Tree.

image

And the Cotton…it escapes from its farmer sometimes and takes root in the darndest places!

image

Anywhere it can find an anchor….there it grows…….

image

And it really can cover a fence…

image

And, there are some very pretty and hearty grasses…just waitin’ for the travelin’ herd of horses to munch on!

SNYDER HILL BLM CAMPGROUND

image

This is a quick tour of Snyder Hill.
One of my favorite BLM boondocking spots.
It is at Ajo Way (H.86) and San Jouqouin Rd South west of Tuscon, Az.

image

The stay limit is 14 days…Rangers check and are polite, they do “speak to you of the rule”.:-D.

image

It is very convienient to Tucson. Stores, water, post office and a nice casino is near by.
There are RV parks in the vicinity and Camping world in Tuscon for dumping/filling those tanks.

image

There are large spots for the Big Rigs. It does get crowded in February with Rv’ers leaving Quartzite coming to The Tucson Gem and Mineral Show.

image

There are many hiking trails around the Hill and across the road at San Jouqouin Rd.

image

There is even Geo caching from time to time!

image

Lots of old Saguaros.

image

And a few “what is its?”

Mesquite Tree.
This tree grows all around The Big Bend area of Texas. It is quite lovely with its fern like green leaves and those beautiful ripe red seed pods.
The Native Americans made flour and jelly as well as a medicinal plant…it is a wonderful and usefull tree…ever heard of mesquite charcoal?          :-).
